Ayurvedic treatment consists of food, herbal medicines and practices prescribed separately or combined, depending upon the prakruti, the disease and the prognosis. These various methods of treatment offer both preventive as well as curative forms of therapy to the patient. The aim is to bring the dosha into balance as soon as possible.
Generally Ayurvedic medicines are derived from a combination of plants selected based on tradition as well as holistic reason. They are manufactured under different yet optimal pharmaceutical processes. Unique methodologies are employed in manufacturing, to not only derive variety of forms i.e. powder, capsules, extracted juice, decoction etc., but also to modify and intensify their inherent properties for desired effect.
Following are the details of each treatment designed and provided at our center for healing and wellness.
PizhichilPronounced 'pirichil', this treatment is done with lukewarm medicated oil - according to your prakruti and needs of the moment. It is advisable to take this treatment for 7 consecutive days. Oil is poured on the body for 45 to 60 minutes in a rhythmic manner and in a specific order. For specific requirements, sometimes it is followed by massage for optimal absorption. Massage in Ayurveda has nothing to do with muscles or fat tissue, but all with penetration and deeper cell communication. The treatment takes at least 7 to 21 days and is useful in rheumatic diseases such as arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegic ailments, sexual weakness, nervous weakness and other disorders.
KizhiEither Herbal leaves/powders, specific rice type, lemon or other ingredients are applied to the whole body in boluses (similar to Thai stamps) with oils, milk or decoction. The treatment takes 45 minutes and should at least be applied for 7 consecutive days. This treatment is effective in osteoarthritis, arthritis with swelling, spondylosis, sports injuries etc.
DharaHerbal oils, medicated milk or buttermilk are poured on the forehead in a specific method for about 45 minutes. It is provided for 7 to 21 days. This treatment is effective in insomnia, vata predominant diseases, mental stress, certain skin diseases etc.
SirovasthiVariety of lukewarm oils are poured into a cap fitted on the head, for 15 to 60 minutes. It is modified according to the patients' condition and is provided for a period of 7 days. This treatment is highly effective for facial paralysis, dryness of mouth, throat and nostrils, severe headaches, burning sensation of the head and other vata diseases.
NavarakizhiIt is a process by which the body or some part of it is made to perspire excessively by the application of certain medical mixes, reduced to a paste and tied up into muslin bags (similar to Thai stamps). This is applied for 45 to 60 minutes for 7-14 days. This treatment is effective for all types of rheumatism, joint pain, emaciation of the limbs, high and low blood pressure, high cholesterol and certain kinds of skin diseases.
UdvarthanamThis massage is performed with dry, herbal powders (choornam) for about 30 minutes daily for a period of 14 to 28 days. This treatment is effective for the diseases like hemiplegic affections, paralysis, obesity, excess of fat in tissues and specific rheumatic diseases.
AbhyangamAn oil massage in which the special strokes are given according to the disease for about 45-60 minutes for 7-14 days. This treatment is effective for obesity, diabetic gangrene or other affections due to lack of blood circulation in the extremities of the body.
